Over the last 6 months the Citizen Good impact team have been working with DEFRA, looking into how government policy should evolve around the future of farming agenda in the UK. They have been working with farmers and businesses exploring how corporate funds could work together with government funds to achieve a greater environmental and social impact. The study is ongoing and will be delivered later this year.
Why do we still live in a world where polluting pays?
Right now it pays to pollute and this needs to change. Those companies without the burden of additional audit costs are making huge savings and stealing margin from those paying to do the right thing. We have things the wrong way round.
Our work highlights how businesses are moving ahead of government policies all over the world. So many are following sustainable principles, but they are often doing so at their own expense. Polluters carry on polluting while the trailblazing few, experimenting with regenerative farming and a net positive agenda, pay more to do good. They pay for audits, accreditations and best practice training often amounting to millions in additional costs.
Chipotle – Future of farming is in the past
Some companies have been following a sustainable farming agenda for a long time now. 10 years ago, Chipotle a quick service restaurant set their stake in the ground and launched an inspiring campaign to the soundtrack of Coldplay’s Back To The Start and last year they launched an updated version at the NFL Superbowl to Coldplay’s Fix You.
If you haven’t seen them take a look. Not sure how it landed with passionate football fans but from a regenerative farming perspective, we love them. We hope you will be as inspired as we are.
