Turning the tide: Ocean Co’s Impact Engine

Posted on April 25, 2024

Today, as part of our Earth Day week series Plastics v’s Planet, we shine a spotlight on Ocean Bottle’s Impact engine—a remarkable initiative driving positive change for our planet’s oceans.

This innovative impact engine (Ocean Co) powers Ocean Bottle’s reusable products, along with a host of other brands and organisations from Gail’s to Pet Impact, Deutsche Bank to Redbull all with a common goal of making a tangible impact by funding vital ocean health projects in the global south.

Ocean Co’s Impact engine is about creating real, measurable change.

To date, it has facilitated the collection of over 13 million kilograms of ocean-bound plastic and has empowered more than 8,700 coastal communities. This is more than just a plastics clean-up; it’s a lifeline for those living in vulnerable areas.

The process is as impactful as the results.

Ocean Co-partners with collectors in coastal communities, providing them with resources and support to clear rivers and waterways before plastic reaches the ocean. In return for their efforts, these collectors receive fair compensation and access to essential services like healthcare and education. The collected plastic is then responsibly recycled or upcycled through a traceable system, ensuring zero waste to landfill.

Since its inception, Ocean Co has funded the clean-up of over 13 million kilograms of ocean-bound plastic across 345 sites, directly benefiting 6,489 families. This is impact that matters—improving lives while safeguarding our oceans.

What sets Ocean Co apart is its commitment to democratising impact.

By enabling any brand or organisation to support coastal communities in the global south, they are empowering a new model of responsible citizenship. They prove that sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a call to action.

Ocean Co’s Impact engine is a testament to the power of collective effort in addressing environmental challenges. Showing how through working together we can turn the tide for our oceans and communities, one plastic bottle at a time.

Join us in celebrating this inspiring example of a citizen brand in action. Together, we can make waves of change.
